Custom Gold & Diamond Engagement Rings in Oslo: Your Love Story, Made to Wear
Your Love Story Collection by Maralkunst
An engagement ring can be beautiful.
But beauty alone does not make it yours.
At Maralkunst in Oslo, we believe the most meaningful engagement rings begin somewhere deeper: with your relationship, your memories, your personality, your values, the symbols that matter to you and the life you are choosing to build together.
This is the philosophy behind our Your Love Story Collection — custom engagement rings created individually in solid gold with lab-grown or natural diamonds and gemstones.
Rather than beginning with a catalogue and asking you to choose a ring, we begin with a conversation.
Who are you?
What connects you?
What does this commitment mean to you?
And what should your ring quietly carry with it for the years ahead?
Then we transform those answers into something wearable.
Wear Your Story.
What Is a Custom Engagement Ring?

A custom engagement ring is created specifically for one client rather than selected as a finished, mass-produced design.
At Maralkunst, custom means more than choosing a diamond and changing the ring size.
The proportions, stone combination, metal, setting, texture, symbolism, engraving and overall character of the ring can all develop around the person who will wear it.
Sometimes the inspiration is a place.
Sometimes it is a shared experience.
Sometimes it is a color, a belief, a landscape, a memory or a detail that would mean nothing to anyone else — but everything to the two people involved.
One Maralkunst project began with a couple’s connection to mountain climbing. Rope, rock and the feeling of climbing together became part of the design language of the ring.
Another began simply with an emotional attachment to Mediterranean blue — leading us toward blue gemstones and a Santorini-inspired feeling.
That is where bespoke jewelry becomes different from simply purchasing a ring.
The design begins with you.
Which Gold Is Best for an Engagement Ring?
Maralkunst custom engagement rings can be created in 10K, 14K or 18K solid gold, depending on the design, desired appearance, lifestyle and investment level.
10K Gold
10K gold contains a lower percentage of pure gold and a larger proportion of other metals.
This generally makes it harder and more resistant to everyday scratching than higher-karat gold, while allowing a more accessible starting point for a solid-gold custom ring.
Its gold color is usually slightly softer and less intensely yellow than 14K or 18K yellow gold.
For someone who wants the durability of solid gold while working within a particular budget, 10K can be an excellent option.
14K Gold
14K gold is one of the most versatile choices for an engagement ring.
It offers a beautiful balance between gold content, durability and everyday practicality.
For many clients who intend to wear their engagement ring daily, 14K is a strong choice.
18K Gold
18K contains a higher percentage of pure gold and has a richer gold character.
It is traditionally associated with fine and high-end jewelry and can be an excellent choice for clients who prioritize precious-metal content, richness of color and luxury.
Because higher-purity gold is also softer, the lifestyle of the wearer and the design of the setting should always be considered.
At Maralkunst, we do not believe one karat is automatically “better” than another.
The right metal is the one that fits the person, the design, the way the ring will be worn and the client’s priorities.
Yellow Gold or White Gold?
Both can create beautiful engagement rings, but the feeling is very different.
Yellow gold brings warmth, tradition and richness. It can work beautifully with colorless diamonds, champagne tones, sapphires and many colored gemstones.
White gold creates a cooler, contemporary appearance and allows a colorless diamond to blend visually with its setting.
The choice does not need to follow trends.
We look at skin tone, personal jewelry style, the chosen gemstone, the rest of the jewelry you already wear and, most importantly, what feels authentically yours.
Lab-Grown Diamond or Natural Diamond?
Maralkunst works according to the client’s preferences and can source both lab-grown diamonds and natural diamonds.
A lab-grown diamond is a real diamond. It has essentially the same crystal structure and physical and optical characteristics as a naturally formed diamond; the fundamental difference is its origin.
A natural diamond forms in nature over geological time, while a lab-grown diamond is created under controlled conditions using technology that recreates the environment in which diamond crystals grow.
In the Norwegian engagement-ring market, both natural and laboratory-grown diamonds are now actively offered, including by established Scandinavian retailers.
Neither choice needs to be presented as morally or emotionally “better.”
They answer different priorities.
For some clients, the geological origin and rarity of a natural diamond are important.
For others, a lab-grown diamond allows them to choose a larger stone, a particular cut or a higher specification while keeping more of their investment available for the design itself.
At Maralkunst, our role is to explain the options honestly and help you choose what resonates with your values and your story.
Are Lab-Grown Diamonds Real Diamonds?
Yes.
A laboratory-grown diamond should not be confused with cubic zirconia or another diamond simulant.
Lab-grown and natural diamonds differ primarily in their origin. Specialized equipment can be required to distinguish them, and established grading laboratories can issue reports for laboratory-grown diamonds.
When a certified stone is selected for your Maralkunst ring, the relevant laboratory documentation supplied with that stone accompanies the piece.
Your Maralkunst documentation is separate: it records the finished custom creation and its specifications.
Understanding the 4Cs of a Diamond
When choosing a diamond, you will often hear about the 4Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat.
Cut influences how effectively the diamond interacts with light.
Color describes how much body color is present in a colorless diamond.
Clarity describes internal and external characteristics.
Carat measures weight, not simply how large the diamond looks.
A one-carat oval, one-carat round and one-carat emerald-cut diamond will not necessarily look the same size on the hand.
This is why we do not choose diamonds by carat alone.
Proportion, cut, shape, setting and the wearer’s hand all matter.
What Diamond Shape Should I Choose?

There is no single “best” engagement-ring shape.
Round brilliant diamonds offer classic brilliance.
Oval diamonds can create an elegant elongated appearance.
Pear shapes combine softness and direction.
Emerald cuts have a quieter, architectural elegance.
Radiant cuts combine angular geometry with stronger sparkle.
Princess cuts have a contemporary square form.
Cushion cuts can feel romantic and soft.
And sometimes the most meaningful design combines different shapes.
The choice should support the overall story and composition rather than simply follow what is currently fashionable.
Can I Use Colored Gemstones With a Diamond?

Absolutely.
Your custom engagement ring does not need to be entirely white diamonds.
Depending on the project, we can explore sapphires, spinel, topaz, moissanite and other natural or lab-grown gemstones alongside diamonds.
Color can have enormous emotional significance.
A gemstone may represent a place, a birth month, a landscape, a memory or simply a color that makes someone feel immediately connected to the ring.
At Maralkunst, that emotional connection matters.
How Does the Maralkunst Custom Engagement Ring Process Work?
It begins with your story.
During the consultation, we discuss your vision, personality, lifestyle, preferred materials, gemstones, ring size, inspiration and investment range.
From there, we develop the direction of the design.
Where appropriate, the project progresses through design development and CAD visualization, allowing us to examine the structure and proportions before production.
Stone options are sourced according to the agreed direction.
Once the design and specifications are approved, your ring moves into production.
Throughout the process, the goal remains the same:
to translate something personal into a piece that can live with you.
Can I Design a Ring Without Knowing Exactly What I Want?
Yes — and many clients begin that way.
You do not need to arrive with a technical jewelry drawing.
You can arrive with a feeling.
Show us architecture, photographs, landscapes, colors, artwork, memories, symbols or jewelry details that attract you.
Tell us what you dislike as well as what you love.
The more we understand about the person and the story, the closer we can move toward a design that feels authentic.
How Much Does a Custom Engagement Ring Cost in Norway?
There is no single price for a bespoke engagement ring because the final investment depends on several elements: gold karat and weight, gemstone type, diamond specifications, carat weight, complexity of the setting, number of stones and the amount of custom development required.
A custom ring should therefore be quoted according to its individual specifications rather than priced purely by the center stone.
For Maralkunst, the value of a bespoke piece includes more than raw materials.
It includes the search, design process, gemstone selection, development, craftsmanship and the work required to translate a personal vision into a finished ring.
If you have a defined investment range, tell us at the beginning. It helps us develop realistic options around what matters most to you.
Can You Make an Engagement Ring in 10K, 14K or 18K Gold?
Yes.
Depending on the project, Maralkunst can create custom rings in 10K, 14K or 18K solid gold, including yellow and white gold.
We will discuss the differences in appearance, durability, gold content and price before the design is finalized.
Can I Choose a Natural Diamond?
Yes.
Our work is client-led.
You may choose a natural diamond, lab-grown diamond or another gemstone depending on your priorities and the design.
Our current custom work frequently uses lab-grown stones, but our service is not limited to them.
As Maralkunst develops further into high fine jewelry, natural diamonds and exceptional natural gemstones will continue to be part of our bespoke offering.
Do Custom Diamond Rings Come With a Certificate?
When a selected diamond or gemstone has an independent laboratory grading report, that documentation is supplied with the ring.
In addition, Maralkunst provides its own documentation for the finished custom ring.
The two documents serve different purposes.
The laboratory report relates to the graded stone.
The Maralkunst Certificate relates to the finished piece, its design and specifications.
What Guarantee Does Maralkunst Provide?
Maralkunst provides a 12-month craftsmanship guarantee for confirmed manufacturing or craftsmanship defects on custom rings.
Fine jewelry also requires ongoing care. Prongs, settings and precious metals can gradually change through everyday wear, pressure or impact, which is why regular inspection is important.
The Maralkunst guarantee is an additional commercial promise and does not limit the statutory rights customers have under Norwegian consumer law. Norwegian consumer guidance specifically distinguishes a voluntary guarantee from the customer’s separate right to complain about defects.
Every custom solid-gold engagement ring also receives Maralkunst care guidance explaining how to protect the metal, gemstones and setting.
Can a Diamond Become Loose?
Yes.
A diamond itself may be extremely hard, but the metal holding it is not indestructible.
Prongs and settings can gradually move or wear through pressure and everyday activity.
If you ever notice that a stone moves, rattles, appears to sit differently or a prong feels raised, stop wearing the ring and contact us.
Catching a loose setting early can prevent the loss of the stone.
Should I Remove My Engagement Ring at the Gym or While Cleaning?
Yes.
A fine engagement ring is designed to be worn, but it should not be treated as though nothing can affect it.
We recommend removing it for weightlifting, heavy manual work, gardening, household cleaning, activities involving chemicals and situations where the ring may be crushed or struck.
Care is not a sign that a ring is fragile.
It is how fine jewelry remains beautiful for generations.
Should I Think About the Wedding Band at the Same Time?
Whenever possible, yes.
The height and profile of your engagement ring can influence how a future wedding band sits beside it.
If you want the two rings to sit flush, overlap, curve around one another or intentionally remain separate, tell us during the engagement-ring design process.
This allows us to think beyond one ring and consider the complete composition.
Can Maralkunst Create an Engagement Ring for an International Client?
Yes.
Maralkunst is based in Oslo, Norway, but the concept of Wear Your Story is not limited by geography.
Design consultations and development can be handled with clients beyond Oslo, with logistics discussed individually according to the destination and project.
Our aim is to create jewelry that connects people through personal experience rather than borders.
Why Choose Maralkunst for a Custom Engagement Ring in Oslo?

Because we do not begin by asking:
“Which ring would you like?”
We begin by asking:
“What matters to you?”
For us, jewelry is not valuable only because of its gold weight or diamond carat.
A ring becomes truly precious when it contains a piece of a person’s identity.
Love.
Vulnerability.
Memory.
Symbolism.
Intention.
The experiences that belong uniquely to two people.
We believe that is what transforms precious materials into something irreplaceable.
Your story deserves more than a ring.
It deserves a form of its own.
