A Voice from the Mountains: Introducing Farid Abdi at Maralkunst

At Maralkunst, we believe that jewelry is more than decoration—it’s a story, a memory, a soul cast into form. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight local and regional artists whose work embodies meaning, symbolism, and personal vision. Each piece in our gallery is a whisper from somewhere—past or present, mythical or personal.

Today, we are honored to introduce a unique voice in contemporary jewelry:

Farid Abdi, an artist from Sanandaj, Iran, whose works trace the invisible lines between mythology, nature, and the human experience.

Jewelry Beyond Trends

Farid’s creations aren’t driven by fashion or fleeting market trends. His process is deeply intuitive—rooted in personal symbolism, nature’s forms, ancient memory, and the collective soul of humanity.

“I create from intuition, drawing from myth, the old world, and my own emotional interpretations of what it means to be human.”

Each piece is a one-of-a-kind expression, not meant to repeat or reproduce. And this makes his jewelry feel like a quiet ritual—meant to be worn by someone who resonates with its silent story.

The Spirit of Janus

Farid’s chosen brand name is Janus—the Roman god of duality and time, who looks both forward and backward. This symbolic choice mirrors Farid’s core philosophy:

That jewelry is a bridge between the past and the future, the inner and the outer, the individual and the collective.

“Humans are the only beings aware of time. That’s our gift—to feel love, grief, friendship, and longing with such depth.”

In his eyes, jewelry is one of the most ancient ways to express and share these inner human truths.

From Kurdistan: Shahmaran Reborn

Perhaps the most iconic piece in Farid’s collection is his sculptural tribute to Shahmaran—the mythic serpent woman of Kurdish and Persian legend.

“Everything began with a haunting image—a woman with the body of a serpent, silently watching from the walls of Kurdish homes. Years later, I understood she was Shahmaran.”

Her story—of wisdom, betrayal, feminine power, and sacrifice—is reborn in bronze, silver, or gold through Farid’s hands. Modeled first in wax in his Sanandaj studio, and then cast and painted with cold enamel, each Shahmaran piece carries the myth forward—from underworld to light.

These pieces are more than jewelry.

They are ancestral whispers, worn close to the heart.
