What is Nowruz — The Story Behind Persian New Year
Nowruz (نوروز), meaning “New Day,” is one of the oldest celebrations in the world—
rooted in ancient Persian culture and aligned with the spring equinox.
It is the moment when day and night become equal,
reminding us that balance is always possible.
For centuries, across generations, Persian families have welcomed this day by:
– Cleaning their homes (cleansing energy)
– Wearing new clothes (stepping into a new identity)

Haft-Seen — The Table of Life and Intention
At the heart of Nowruz is the Haft-Seen table—
a sacred arrangement of seven symbolic elements, each starting with the Persian letter “S”.
Each item carries a wish for the new year:
– Sabzeh (greens): rebirth and growth
– Seeb (apple): beauty and health
– Seer (garlic): protection
– Senjed (dried fruit): love
– Samanu: strength and abundance
– Serkeh (vinegar): patience and wisdom

One of the most beautiful traditions of Nowruz is Eidi (عیدی).
